I have a passion for working in glass, a fascination that has lasted for more than 25 years. Glass is a medium that tantalizes and frustrates, challenges and intrigues. Lampworking, creating beads and sculpture in the flame, has brought me to many places and introduced me to a wide variety of experiences and wonderful people.

I use the flame and a variety of glass to create small worlds and vignettes of fantasy and nature in the shape of a bead. Often while creating a design I am transformed to that place: a garden, seascape or mountain vista. Time is often forgotten, and the world disappears, except for the small area in the flame and the glass in my hand. The rigors of the craft-high temperatures and intense concentration are rewarded by the process of creation.

For inspiration I look to the beauty around me; People, flowers, animals and the lovely mountains that surround my home in Colorado. Living in an essentially land locked state following more that 20 years of living on the ocean sometimes makes me yearn for the sound of crashing waves and seabirds. When this happens I make seascapes and mermaids to dance in the waves of my memory. Life and art are interchangeable, a gift of greatest value.

Of all I create my most favorite is the glass enthusiast! Many of my happiest days are spent introducing the ancient craft of lampworking to a new student. I especially enjoy teaching introductory classes, the enthusiasm brought to the class rejuvenates me.

Many of my beads and sculptures are made into jewelry and adornments for the home by designers and craftspeople. Presently, some of my glass sculptures are in the Englewood Outdoor Museum of Art as elements in Virginia Folkestaad's metal sculpture. Beadwork magazine has featured my articles about beadmakers and bead making regularly for more than 2 years. I also have a line of jewelry that I designed around my beads. My work is available in several fine art galleries and custom orders are always welcomed.

If you have any questions about glass bead making or wish to learn more about this wonderful medium please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
